What makes a good coffee scale?
For a coffee scale, the three most important elements are: accurate weighing, precise timing, and an appropriate size. When designing our models, we examined many scales on the market. Some come with numerous features—auto-timing, auto-stop timing, coffee-to-water ratio display, and some can even generate pour-over brewing curves and share them with friends via Bluetooth.
If executed well, these features are certainly appealing to consumers. However, as a coffee enthusiast myself, I’ve found that while I might initially use these functions out of curiosity, my interest tends to fade after just a few tries. These innovated features, meant to highlight the product, often see very low usage rates. Yet they require significant human and R&D resources, the cost of which ultimately falls on consumers. We don’t believe this is a worthwhile trade-off.
Instead, we focus on perfecting the core functions: making weighing more accurate, ensuring the scale is large enough to accommodate bigger coffee pots (as some customers prefer), and incorporating a reliable timer—since most coffee brewing processes require precise timing. By refining these essential features to a suitable level and offering them at an accessible price, we believe such a scale will not only meet the needs of most coffee brewers but also win the appreciation of the majority of consumers.
